Model United Nations

MUN and Goals

A Model of the United Nations (MUN) can be defined as a simulation or representation of the United Nations system in which students from high school or university participate. They are simulations that reproduce the functioning and dynamics of the principal organs of the United Nations.

The model gets students involved in analytical work on the world stage. The work they carry out during the exercise is challenging as they become ambassadors to UN member states, aiming to find solutions to major challenges facing humanity.

Delegates

Your mission and vision as a delegate

Students who take part in the United Nations simulation are called delegates. Their role in the simulation represents countries belonging to UN agencies, programs, agencies or committees. As a delegate, your responsibilities include: preparing to actively participate in your mandate during the simulation and be a generational representative of peace through all your actions, interventions and interactions.

All delegates should collect as much research material as possible to reconstruct and personify the country's historical, political, cultural and economic background and become true ambassadors. The representative must put aside his true political beliefs and ideologies to discuss the issue in light of the country's position.

The speech

Your speech is the key to success

When the debate begins, it's crucial to have an opening statement so the other delegates know where you stand on the topic. It is a mandatory document that needs to be prepared and read by the delegate when the work session starts.

It briefly describes the position of the country represented and proposes some solutions. Its duration must be a maximum of two minutes at the time of exposure. This talk allows you to build alliances and come up with solutions to work as a team, like a leader.

Resolution and votes

Time to show your communication skill!

The Resolution expresses a common political will and reflects the alliances between the States. During the working sessions, several coalitions of countries will be formed to share solutions and political plans on the specific issues you discuss.

The Resolution is the official document of the group. It will be shared with all delegates, and at the end, they must decide if this is a resolution with an accurate and accessible proposal.

To be a good leader, you must use persuasion, negotiation, writing, and speaking skills to convince your audience of your ideas in a tolerant and respectful environment.
